René Monory 1986

René Monory (born June 6, 1923 in Loudun ; † April 11, 2009 ibid) was a French politician of the UDF . Monory often held ministerial posts and was President of the French Senate.

Life

Monory, without a secondary school diploma, worked as a car mechanic and was therefore nicknamed garagiste de Loudun when he was first elected mayor of his hometown Loudun in 1959. From 1968 to 1977 and from 1986 to 2004 he was a member of the French Senate for the Vienne department . In 1977, Prime Minister Raymond Barre appointed him Minister of Industry, Trade and Crafts, and from 1978 Minister of Economics , an office that he held until 1981, with the introduction of the People's Savings Bank System SICAV . He was appointed Minister of Education to Prime Minister Jacques Chirac's civil cabinet on March 20, 1986 . He held the office until the end of this government on May 12, 1988. From 1992 to 1998 he was President of the French Senate. The construction of the Futuroscope in the city of Poitiers goes back to his initiative .

Awards

He was awarded the Order of the Knight of the Legion of Honor. In 1997 he received the Grand Decoration of Honor in Gold on ribbon for services to the Republic of Austria .
