Raymond Marcellin

Raymond Marcellin (born August 19, 1914 in Sézanne , Département Marne , † September 8, 2004 in Paris ) was a French lawyer and politician.

Marcellin's political career began as a member of the Center national des indépendants et paysans (CNIP), from 1962 he belonged to the Républicains indépendants , from 1978 to the UDF . In 1946 he was elected for the first time as a member of the Morbihan Department in the National Assembly, of which he was a member until 1963. From May 1962 to January 1966, Marcellin was Minister of Health in Cabinets Pompidou I and II . In Pompidou's third cabinet, he was Minister of Industry from January 1966 to April 1967.

From 1964 to 1998 - for 34 years - he chaired the General Council of the Morbihan department; from 1965 to 1977 he was also mayor of the city of Vannes . From May 30, 1968 to February 27, 1974 he was French Minister of the Interior. In this position he stood for the return to order after the riots in May 1968 . He was then a senator from 1974 to 1981, then again a member of the National Assembly until 1988. At the same time he held the office of chairman of the Regional Council of Brittany from 1978 to 1986 .
