Christian Bonnet

Christian Charles Auguste Bonnet (born June 14, 1921 in Paris ; † April 7, 2020 in Vannes ) was a French politician of the Mouvement républicain populaire (MRP) and most recently the Union pour la démocratie française (UDF), member of the National Assembly , State Secretary , Minister of Agriculture from 1974 to 1977, Minister of the Interior and member of the Senate between 1977 and 1981 .

Life

Deputy and State Secretary

Bonnet graduated from the renowned École libre des sciences politiques . As a candidate for the Mouvement républicain populaire (MRP), he was elected to the National Assembly for the first time on January 2, 1956 , and represented the Morbihan department in this until August 6, 1968 . From 1958 to 2002 he was also the representative of the canton Belle-Île in the general council of the Morbihan department and, in the meantime, he was also mayor of Carnac .

On July 6, 1972, Bonnet took over his first government office, namely as State Secretary in the Ministry of Equipment, Housing and Spatial Planning (Secrétaire d'État auprès du ministre de l'équipement, du logement et de l'aménagement du territoire) in the first cabinet of Messmer . He also held this office in the subsequent second Messmer cabinet , with responsibility for construction and living spaces transferred to him on April 26, 1973. On March 4, 1973, he was either elected a member of the National Assembly, although he renounced this mandate on May 12, 1973 after he had taken over a government office again. In the subsequent third Messmer cabinet , he served between February 28 and May 28, 1974, as State Secretary for Housing in the Ministry of Spatial Planning, Equipment and Transport (Secrétaire d'État auprès du ministre de l'aménagement du territoire, de l'équipement et of transport, chargé du logement) .

Minister and Senator

In the first Chirac cabinet , Bonnet was appointed Minister of Agriculture (Ministre de l'Agriculture) on May 28, 1974 and held this ministerial office in the first Barre cabinet until March 30, 1977. After the formation of the second Barre cabinet , he became on March 30th 1977 Minister of the Interior (Ministre de l'Intérieur) . He held this ministerial office until May 22, 1981 in the third Barre cabinet . In the meantime he was re-elected a member of the National Assembly for the Union pour la démocratie française (UDF) on March 12, 1978, although this time he renounced his mandate on May 5, 1978 because of his government office. After leaving the government, he was re-elected for the UDF on June 14, 1981 as a member of the National Assembly, to which he was a member until January 1, 1982.

Bonnet was elected a member of the Senate on September 25, 1983 . After his re-election on September 27, 1992, he was a member of the Senate until September 30, 2001. During his Senate membership, he became a member of the Senate Legislative Committee (Commission des lois) on October 5, 1982 and was a member of it until September 30, 2001.
