Christian Bonnet (musician)

Christian Bonnet (* 1945 in Paris ; † June 13, 2017 there ) was a French jazz musician (tenor saxophone), author and producer.

Live and act

Bonnet played tenor saxophone in the big band Swing Limited Corporation under the direction of Jean-François Georges in the 1960s , in later years with Eddy Louiss and Alain Bouchet, most recently in 2014 with Sylvia Howard and the Black Label Swingtet ( Sings Duke ). As a writer, he wrote for Jazz Hot during the 1970s .

As an admirer of Duke Ellington , he was chairman of the Maison du Duke in Paris, founded in 2009, where he organized and published conferences and concerts with Claude Carrière. He translated the Ellington autobiography Music is My Mistress (Editions Slatkine & Cie, 2016). From the 1990s on, Bonnet worked as a producer for the Nocturne label , editor of the Masters of Jazz anthology (1990–2002) and as an employee of the BD Jazz collection . He was also a member of the Académie du Jazz and acted as its treasurer; he also participated in the Edition Cabu Masters of Jazz (Nocturne). In the field of jazz he was involved in twelve recording sessions between 1968 and 2014. He was named Chevallier des Arts et Lettres by the Republic of France .
