Chirac II cabinet

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Chirac II cabinet was the French government from March 20, 1986 to May 10, 1988. It replaced the Fabius cabinet . This was preceded by the election victory of the right-wing and centrist parties led by the RPR and UDF in the parliamentary elections in 1986 , which is why President François Mitterrand appointed their candidate Jacques Chirac as prime minister . This marked the beginning of the first cohabitation of the fifth republic . It was Chirac's second term as Prime Minister.

The government has been reformed and expanded several times. On May 10, 1988, two days after the second round of the presidential election , the government resigned to allow the re-established President Mitterrand to form a new government. Mitterrand appointed the Rocard I cabinet under the socialist Michel Rocard and dissolved the National Assembly, which ended cohabitation .
