Adrien Zeller
Adrien Zeller (born April 2, 1940 in Saverne , † August 22, 2009 in Haguenau ) was a French politician of the UMP . From 1996 to 2009 he was President of the Alsatian Regional Council .
He has been a member of the UMP since 2002. He was previously a member of the CDS and UDF . From 1986 to 1988 he was State Secretary in Jacques Chirac's second cabinet .
Adrien Zeller strengthened the responsibilities given to the French regions by decentralization and mainly used European funding programs to modernize Alsace. As a bilingual Alsatian with professional experience in the EU Commission , cross-border cooperation was important to him . He worked closely with his neighbors in Baden-Württemberg , Rhineland-Palatinate and Switzerland ; the trinational metropolitan region of the Upper Rhine was initiated by him and implemented by his successor in the office of President of the Regional Council, Philippe Richert .
For his services he was u. a. awarded the Federal Cross of Merit.
He suddenly died of a heart attack at the age of 69.
