She is also a founding member of the CRII-GEN association, which studies the effects of genetic engineering on living things. Since June 2009 Lepage has been a member of the European Parliament in the ALDE group .

Life

As a young lawyer, in 1978 she founded the first law firm with her husband specializing in environmental law . She became famous for defending the municipalities affected by the Amoco Cadiz oil spill on the coast of Brittany (France).

In 1989 she was elected to the City Council of Cabourg ( Calvados Department ) and then ran for the Assemblée Nationale in 1993 . After the presidential election in 1995 and after Alain Juppé became the new Prime Minister , she was appointed Minister of the Environment. With the dissolution of the National Assembly in 1997, she lost her office.

She is a co-founder of various non-governmental organizations for environmental protection:

  • Comité de Recherche et d'Informations Indépendantes sur le Génie Génétique (CRII GEN); a scientific organization that studies the effects of genetically modified organisms on health and the environment.
  • Observatoire de Vigilance et d'Alerte Écologique ; this organization fights, among other things, for the transparency of accidents and contamination in the nuclear power plants in France.

She is also involved in the fight against corruption in politics and business as a board member of Transparency International France .

In 2002 she ran for the presidential election and achieved 1.88% of the votes in the first ballot. In the regional elections in 2004 she led the list of the UDF in Paris; but did not take part in the second ballot after the merger of the UDF and UMP lists .

In 2007 she did not run as a candidate, but supported François Bayrou . After the elections, CAP 21 helped found the Mouvement démocrate (MoDem) party led by François Bayrou; Corinne Lepage became deputy chairwoman. She was elected MEP for the Modem party in the Nord-Ouest constituency in the 2009 European elections in France .

In December 2009 she founded a think tank called Terre Democrate , in which all citizens who wanted to participate could create new political and social ideas by December 2010.

In 2009 Corinne Lepage criticized the massive use of nuclear power in France for economic, social and ecological reasons : “In France, nuclear power is practically a religion [...] I am not against nuclear technology from the outset. But I think it poses many problems. And I'm not sure it's economically viable. But I am sure that she is to blame for many evils in French society. Because of the opaque secrecy into which the system has maneuvered, which has spilled over into many other areas, because it had to be kept secret that it happened for nuclear power. Second, it is causing part of our current economic troubles. Because by relying solely on nuclear power, we have not developed any renewable energies , no new materials, etc. etc. And our industry is lagging behind. "

Since the beginning of 2016, she has represented the Swiss canton and the city of Geneva in the lawsuit they brought against the neighboring French nuclear power plant Bugey - in her own words not to frighten France, but to shake it up and its nuclear regulatory authority ASN ( Autorité de sûreté nucléaire ) To "defend the ramparts for nuclear security in France against unbelievable pressure".

Corinne Lepage announced in January 2017 that she supported Emmanuel Macron's candidacy for the 2017 presidential election and his En Marche movement.

She is one of the main organizers of the Monsanto Tribunal .
