Louis-Marie-Bretagne Dominique de Rohan-Chabot , fifth Duc de Rohan, Roquelaure et Lude , Peer of France (born January 17, 1710 in Paris , † November 28, 1791 in Nice ) was a French nobleman and lieutenant-général des armées .

Life

Louis-Marie-Bretagne Dominique de Rohan-Chabot had been Colonel since 1734 , then owner of the Rohan infantry regiment named after him in 1738, "Brigadier des armées du roi". from February 20, 1743, and was promoted to Maréchal de camp in 1762 . In 1781 he was appointed lieutenant-général. In this capacity, King Louis XV confirmed to him the right to be treated with the dignity of a cousin of the king .

He was perhaps the most popular of the Blain gentlemen . Despite his prestige, he withdrew to his estate around 1786 after the collar affair and in view of the threat of financial ruin. He died in exile in Nice at the age of 81, after all of his descendants had died long before him.

He was born the son of the fourth Duke of Rohan, Louis II de Rohan-Chabot (1679-1738) and in 1735 married the only daughter of the Duc de Châtillon , Governor of the Dauphin, Charlotte Olympe Rosalie de Chatillon. In his second marriage in 1758 he married Charlotte Émilie de Crussol d'Uzès (1732–1791), daughter of Charles-Emmanuel de Crussol.
