Louis Parrot

Louis Parrot (born August 28, 1906 in Tours , † 1948 in Paris ) was a French poet, essayist, journalist and translator.

Parrot published his first volume of poetry, Ode à Minerve meurtrière , in 1924 , which was followed by more in 1925 and 1927. He was friends with René Char and Pierre Reverdy and, since the Spanish Civil War, with Paul Éluard . In 1937 his translation of the main work by José Ortega y Gasset La rebelión de las masas was published .

During the Second World War, Parrot worked for the Parisian underground publisher Éditions de Minuit . In 1944, the portrait of Paul Éluard appeared as his first contribution to the series Poètes d'aujourd'hui of Edition Seghers . Biographies of Federico García Lorca (1947) and Blaise Cendrars followed .

In 1946 L'Intelligence en guerre was published , the first coherent account of the artistic and intellectual Resistance in France during the German occupation.
