Private

In July 1872 Louise Hauffe married the Leipzig city council and music publisher Raimund Härtel, withdrew from public concert life after the marriage and was involved in building up and maintaining a musical circle of friends. Her house became a center of the musical elite, with Johannes Brahms , Elisabeth and Heinrich von Herzogenberg , Clara Schumann and other great musicians frequenting them. With her extraordinary career as a professional musician, Louise Hauffe was a role model in the fight against social conventions that excluded women from equal participation in working life.
