Louisenberg (also: Luisenberg , Danish also: Louisebjerg ) is a town on the Eckernförde Bay in Schleswig-Holstein , which today almost entirely belongs to Eckernförde after several sub-municipalities .

With a "regular" population of less than 100, the place is one of the smallest districts of Eckernförde. In Louisenberg is the Eckernförde Marine - Kaserne "Nord" and the naval port (" Kranzfelder Hafen ", named after Alfred Kranzfelder , designed by Arnold Agatz ) - a deep-sea port in which since February 13, 2006 all submarines of the German Navy are located are stationed ( naval base Eckernförde ).

history

Louisenberg was originally a Meierhof belonging to the Hemmelmark manor district , which came to the municipality of Barkelsby when it was incorporated in 1928 .

In 1817 the Meierhof was sold by the estate administration. In the mid-1930s, part of the village was incorporated into the town of Eckernförde for the construction of the TVA Nord of the Eckernförde torpedo test station . At the same time, the Louisenberger Hof was one of four alternative locations in Eckernförde for the establishment of a naval barracks in the early 1930s; the decision finally fell on Carlshöhe (Eckernförde) . During the construction work for the TVA Nord, finds were found that prove that the site was settled in the Stone Age (see: History of the City of Eckernförde ).

During the Second World War , the "Louisenberger Lager", a forced labor camp for around 1,200 TVA forced laborers, was set up, which served as a refugee and possibly partially deported camp for over 15 years after the Second World War . According to information, the forced laborers during the Nazi regime came from the former Soviet Union (approx. 300; Russians, Latvians), from Poland (approx. 500) and Italy (approx. 400).

After the end of the Second World War, several companies moved into the buildings of the TVA Nord, especially the JP Sauer & Sohn weapons factory . The company received the site for its production facilities through a heritable building right contract for 60 years based on a Bundestag decision at the end of 1951.

At the beginning of the 1960s, construction work began on the naval port ( Kranzfelder Hafen ) and the barracks on the former TVA-Nord site. A mine diving company was the first unit to move into the new barracks in early 1963 , and further units followed in the same year.

With the incorporation of further areas of the village Louisenberg on January 1, 1974 the curiosity ended that parts of the barracks "Nord" (like the TVA Nord before and after the war initially some companies) were in the area of the municipality Barkelsby .
