Lousoi ( Greek  οἱ Λουσοί , also transcribed Lusoi ) was an ancient Greek city in the northern Peloponnese , at the foot of the Chelmos Mountains. In ancient times the area belonged to Arcadia , today to the province of Achaia . Lousoi was first independent, later it belonged to Kleitor .

Lousoi is best known because of its since the late 8th century BC. Important Artemis sanctuary . Excavations by the Athens branch of the Austrian Archaeological Institute first took place in the Artemis sanctuary in 1898/99. The temple of Artemis and the remains of the surrounding buildings were uncovered. Excavations resumed in 1981 and have continued in annual campaigns ever since. In addition to subsequent excavations in the Artemis Shrine, investigations were initially carried out in the Hellenistic living area of ​​the city. Recently the foundations of a hall , a ring hall temple and another cult building have been excavated in the public center of the Hellenistic city .
