Lowburn is a Finnish stoner, doom and hard rock band from Lappeenranta , which was formed in 2012.
history
The band was founded after guitarist and singer Tomi Mykkänen and drummer Henkka Vahvanen from Battlelore decided to make music together again after a long break and a subsequent jam session . They contacted Miika Kokkola, founding member and bassist of Battlelore, and rehearsed a few times, whereupon guitarist Tommi Havo, another Battlelore founding member, joined through Kokkala. Together they worked out their first self-composed song. At their second rehearsal, the second song was written, after which Lowburn was founded in February 2012. In January 2013 the EP Soaring High was released before it sold out within a few weeks. In late summer 2013, a music video was released for the song All Life Long . The song was also released digitally as a single. In May 2014, a split publication with Church of Void followed. Lowburn's part in this is the song Dope Is a Pope . In early 2015 the band recorded their debut album Doomsayer . After the recordings, she went looking for a label, which she finally found in Argonauta Records . After the material had been mastered by Billy Anderson , it was released in October 2015. During the last work on the album Havo had left the line-up and was replaced by Tommi Lintunen. In the summer of 2017, another member, Kokkola, left, whereupon Antti Vesikko joined as a replacement. In summer and autumn the band wrote and rehearsed new songs, so that in December 2017 the recordings for the second album could begin. In February 2018 the EP Sleeping Giant was released via Argonauta Records. The songs on the sound carrier had already been recorded during the Doomsayer sessions . Various newly recorded songs were also released on it.
style
Marco's "Big Daddy" Garcia from metal-temple.com wrote in his review of Doomsayer that it was an experimental Stoner Doom. The group mixes melodic and gruff instrumentation with melodic and aggressive vocals. Occasionally the band also sounds like a dirty version of the early Soundgarden . He usually found the production too raw. On theobelisk.net was found that Sleeping Giant on the border between hard rock and more aggressive Metal is. Occasionally the group also processed grunge- like melodies. Occasionally, similarities to Kyuss are audible.
