The Loyal is a German monthly magazine for security policy and the magazine of the Association of Reservists of the German Armed Forces .

history

From the very first year of its existence, the reservists' association had published a membership magazine entitled “Die Reserve”. At that time it fulfilled the purpose: military training and further education, "defense policy information" (today: security policy work) and news from the association for its members and outside interested parties. The relaunch in October 1969 also led to a change in the title: “Die Reserve” became “loyal - the critical military magazine”. Today's reporting focuses on German and international security policy, which has been reflected since 2004 in the title "loyal - magazine for security policy".

Topics and edition

The main themes of Loyal are security , defense , armed forces and reservists . The magazine builds on analyzes of security policy developments and decisions, background reports and reports on events that affect the security of Germany and its allies, as well as the description of defense technology by its editorial team and guest authors. In the special section "The Reserve" there are reports from the life of the association.

The approximately 110,000 members of the reservists' association (2015) automatically receive the magazine free of charge. Around 1000 copies are also sent free of charge to all members of the Bundestag as well as selected personalities from companies, the media, universities, colleges and political organizations. In addition, more than 6000 copies are sold in all Bundeswehr bases, both in Germany and in the operational areas.

With a circulation of more than 125,000 copies, Loyal is Germany's most popular magazine in its subject area. It appears eleven times a year in FAZIT Communication GmbH, a company of the FAZ Group. André Uzulis has been the editor-in-chief since 2020 .
