Lu Hao (artist)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lu Hao ( Chinese  陆昊 , Pinyin Lù Hào ; * 1969 in Beijing ) is a Chinese artist who combines traditional Chinese painting with contemporary conceptual art in his works.

life and work

Lu Hao grew up in a hutong in Beijing. Until 1992 he studied Chinese ink painting at the Central College of Fine Arts (CAFA) in Beijing. Until 1997 he painted pictures with traditional motifs, but then turned to the representation of Chinese tradition and modernity in equal measure. His first works in the new style were digital renderings of traditional Chinese architecture, and detailed architectural models were added over several years .

Lu Hao was quickly successful in the international art world and took part in the Biennale di Venezia for the first time in 1999 at the age of 30 . His contribution to documenta 12 , which was generally received rather critically , was two 50 m long rolls of paper with a realistic drawing of Beijing's main street, Chang'an Avenue, and was praised for its “amazing visual acuity”. In 2009, together with Zhao Li, he curated the Chinese pavilion at the 53rd Venice Biennale under the title What is to Come . He lives and works in Beijing.
