The Lualaba colobus monkey ( Piliocolobus langi ) is a species of primate in the genus of the red colobus monkey that occurs in a small area in northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo near Kisangani between the Congo and Aruwimi rivers. To the east, the distribution area extends as far as the Boyoma Falls on the Congo upper reaches ( Lualaba ).

The Lualaba colobus reaches a head-trunk length of about half a meter and an average weight of 7.5 (females) to 9 kg (males). The tail becomes 44 to 66.5 cm long. The head, throat, chest, shoulders and arms are reddish, the legs and stomach blackish- sepia-colored .
Way of life
Lualaba colobus monkeys live in tropical lowland forests and feed on leaves, sprouts, fruits, flowers, beetles, and possibly seeds. Reproduction has not yet been researched.
Systematics
The Lualaba colobus monkey was described as Colobus langi in 1925 . To the east of its range, in the Ituri Rainforest , there is a larger region in which the population of the red colobus monkey arose from the hybridization of three species. It stretches from the Aruwimi in the north and the mountains west of the Eduardsee in the east almost to the Lualaba in the west. The three species involved are the Lualaba colobus monkey, the Oustalet colobus monkey ( P. oustaleti ), and the Semliki colobus monkey ( P. semlikiensis ). The hybrids in most cases have bright red fore bodies, shoulders and arms. The middle back is orange-brown, the rear back, legs and tail are black. The throat, chest and stomach are gray or yellowish in color. However, there are also mostly maroon or dark red-brown specimens. The hybrids were described as a separate species under the name Piliocolobus ellioti .
Danger
The IUCN lists the Lualaba-colobus in its Red List of Threatened Species previously. There are no protected areas in its range.
