Lubor Matouš

Lubor Matouš (born November 2, 1908 in Nachod ; † April 2, 1994 in Prague ) was a Czech ancient orientalist ( Assyriologist and Sumerologist ).

Life

Matouš studied cuneiform writing with Bedřich Hrozný at the Charles University in Prague , and later with Benno Landsberger at the University of Leipzig . After completing his studies, he did research in Kültepe and Constantinople . From 1946 to 1973 he worked in Czechoslovakia at the Charles University in Prague, from 1952 as a lecturer and from 1955 as a professor.

His writings include a Czech grammar of Akkadian and a translation of the Gilgamesh epic into Czech.
