Luc De Rijck

Luc De Rijck (born August 18, 1965 in Lier , † April 4, 1991 in Vosselaar ) was a Belgian football player .

The striker began his career in 1983 with Lierse SK . In 1985 he moved to KFC Rita Berlaar . After a year he went to KFC Turnhout . With the club he played in the second division . In the 1990/91 season he was Turnhout's top scorer in the closing stages and there was only one point behind a promotion place when the club doctor tried to infuse his own blood and De Rijck died from an air embolism . The doctor was later sentenced to six months probation. Today the stadium in Berlaar bears his name and the Luc De Rijck Memorial tournament is held annually .
