Lucas Island ( Norwegian Plogsteinen , plow stone ) is a small island off the Ingrid Christensen coast of the East Antarctic Princess Elisabeth Land . It is located in Prydz Bay 3 km northwest of Plogøy and immediately west of the Vestfold Mountains .
Norwegian cartographers, who also named them, mapped them using aerial photographs of the Lars Christensen expedition in 1936/37 . The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia , however, named them in 1958 after William Charles Lucas (* 1928), diesel generator mechanic at Davis Station in 1957.
