Lucas Van Berkel (born November 29, 1991 in Edmonton ) is a Canadian national volleyball player .

Career

Van Berkel began his career at Edmonton Christian High School. From 2009 to 2014 he studied at Trinity Western University . With the university team Spartans, he won the CIS championship in 2011 and 2012. His first position abroad was the Swedish club Linköpings VC, with whom he managed the double of cup and championship in the 2014/15 season. The following season, the middle blocker played in the Czech Republic at Příbram VB. He then moved to Switzerland, where he also won the double with Volley Amriswil in 2017 . With the Canadian national team he finished third in the 2017 volleyball world league . In the 2017/18 season he played in the second Italian division (A2) for Monini Marconi Volley Spoleto . In the Nations League 2018 he finished seventh with Canada. Canada took the same rank with Van Berkel at the World Championships . Then the middle blocker moved to the German Bundesliga club United Volleys Frankfurt . With the Frankfurt team, he was eliminated in the DVV Cup and the Bundesliga playoffs in the quarter-finals against SVG Lüneburg . He also took part in the Champions League , in which the Hessians came as a newcomer to the group stage. He then moved to the Turkish first division club Galatasaray Istanbul . With the national team, he took part in the Nations League and the World Cup in 2019 .
