Bunker's most famous characters include the antihero Alan Ford , who he also created in collaboration with Raviola in 1969. In the mid-1980s he founded his own publishing house, Max Bunker Press. He was previously the founder and publisher of Eureka magazine .

In addition to his work in comics, Bunker also wrote several novels. His novel Agenzia investigativa Riccardo Finzi was filmed in 1979 under the title Agenzia Riccardo Finzi, praticamente detective . In addition, Bunker was the director, producer and screenwriter of the 1982 film Delitti, amore e gelosia . The comics Kriminal , Satanik and Alan Ford, which he wrote, served as the basis for several film adaptations.

Excerpts from Bunker's comic series Daniel , drawn by Frank Verola and published in the Italian-language original between 1975 and 1978, appeared in German in the paperback series Krimi-Comics published by Bastei-Verlag . The stories were published there in 1988 and 1989, alongside the stories of other draftsmen and authors, under the title Kommissar Daniel in volumes 3 to 5.
