Lucien Mathys

Adolphus Lucianus "Lucien" Mathys (born April 9, 1924 in Zevergem , † December 19, 2010 in Gavere ) was a Belgian cyclist .

Mathys was a professional from 1946 to 1962. In 1945 he was the Belgian champion in the road race of the "independents" (amateurs). In addition to several victories in so-called " fair races " after the Second World War , he won the Tour of Belgium in 1951 , after having finished second in 1948 and third in 1949, and in the one-day race at Schaal Sels Merksem . In 1956 he was fifth on the Tour of Flanders .

In 1948 Mathys took part in the Tour de France , but without finishing it.
