Lucile Browne
Lucile B. Browne (born March 18, 1907 in Memphis , Tennessee , † May 10, 1976 in Lexington , Virginia ) was an American actress .
Life
Like many other actresses, Lucille Browne first worked as a model before starting her acting career. She joined an acting company in Chicago and worked as a stage actress for a few years. In 1930, Browne appeared in Jarnigan with theater legend Richard Bennett when she signed her first film deal with Fox Film Corporation . Already in her first film, the adventure film The Last of the Duanes , she got the female lead alongside George O'Brien . In other films in the following years, the blonde played numerous leading ladies in mostly cheap westerns, action films and serials . In 1935, for example, she was cast in the B-Westerns In the Valley of the Rainbow and Adventure in Texas as a female lead alongside John Wayne , who was still about to make his big break.
Apart from these B-adventure films, Browne only got a few noteworthy opportunities, including alongside Kay Francis in Girls About Town and as the beautiful landlady Zerlina in the Laurel and Hardy opera Laurel and Hardy: Hands up - or not . Although she starred in the smaller films, she wasn't even mentioned in the credits in some of the larger films . On the set of the film series The Airmail Mystery (1932), Browne met the actor James Flavin , who played the leading roles with her. They married that same year and had a son named James William Flavin, who later became a professor. In the late 1930s, Browne largely withdrew from the film business and appeared only sporadically in a few smaller roles during the 1940s. In 1950 she made her last of around 45 films.
In the 1960s she worked in a department store in Westwood , a job she really enjoyed. James Flavin died on April 23, 1976 at the age of 69 after 44 years of marriage to Lucile. She died only 17 days after her husband on May 10, 1976, also at the age of 69. They are buried together in Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City .
