action

The young sheriff John Higgins pursues three robbers who want to hide at a remote express hut along the way. Old Dan, who is shot by the robbers, is already resting there. Before the robbers flee, they arrange the scenery as if Dan was involved in the robbery. John believes he was responsible for the death of his friend and foster father , but is also convinced that Dan had nothing to do with the robbery. He puts down his sheriff star and leaves town. In the wilderness he searches for gold, befriends an Indian tribe and takes action against outlaws when they cross his path.

It so happens that one day he rushes to the aid of Dan's daughter Bess, who returns to take over her father's farm and is attacked by robbers. Following Sheriff Williams' advice, Bess hires John as a foreman on the farm. Over time, the two fall in love. At a dance event , Bess hears from John's rival Joe Dickson that John shot her father. She then chases him hatefully from the ranch .

In the meantime, however, it turns out that Dickson had something to do with the robbery at the time. John follows Dickson's men and finds out they are planning to steal the horses from Bess' ranch the next morning. With the help of the friendly Indian tribe and the sheriff, John can prevent this and pick up the gang. He forces a gang member to confess . So he learns that Dan was really killed by Dickson. John can overpower and arrest him. The film ends with Bess and John reconciling.

criticism

“The only western in which John Wayne (1907–1979) can be seen with a long beard, which he then shaves off. One of a dozen medium-length (50-55 min.) Series westerns that Duke Wayne shot with director and screenwriter Robert N. Bradbury (1886-1949) in the mid-1930s. "
