Jay Wilsey

Wilbert Jay Wilsey (known as Buffalo Bill, Jr .; born February 6, 1896 in St. Francisville , Missouri , † October 25, 1961 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor .

Life

Wilsey was working as a rodeo rider and for western shows when he met the boss of the production company Action Pictures . Lester F. Scott, Jr. signed him as an actor in silent film Western and gave him the screen name Buffalo Bill, Jr. For the distributors Artclass and Pathé he appeared in some thirty films, besides also in two serials of Universal Pictures . He then played in fifteen extremely inexpensive sound film strips, which are among the first (and worst) sound films of their genre. He then worked for Denver Dixon under similarly tight financial conditions .

From 1934 Wilson switched to supporting roles; while he played u. a. in four films alongside John Wayne , with whom he remained friends until his death (and in whose Big Jim McLaine he played his last film role). He later appeared at Columbia Pictures for Bob Allen films, at PRC for some Lone Rider works and again at Columbia as character actor in the Charles Starrett series. Often on these occasions he also worked as a stunt double for the main actors. Wilson can be identified in about sixty Tonzeit-era films.

After finishing his time as an actor, Wilson built a ship and spent a lot of time sailing with his wife.
