The inscription ( CIL 12, 408 )

Lucius Dudistius Novanus (full name form Lucius Dudistius Luci filius Voltinia Novanus ) was a member of the Roman knighthood ( Eques ) living in the 1st century AD . Individual stations of his career, which he probably completed towards the end of the 1st century, are known through an inscription.

Novanus was initially Pontifex Laurentinorum . He then exercised his only military command, that of prefect of the Ala Hispana . Subsequently, he assisted in a census as adiutor to the governor ( Legatus Augusti pro praetore ) of the province of Gallia Lugdunensis ; this position is comparable to other posts that were typically associated with an annual income of 60,000 sesterces . Most recently he was governor ( Procurator Augusti ) in the province of Alpes Cottiae ; this governorship was linked to an annual income of 100,000 sesterces.

Novanus was inscribed in the Voltinia tribe . He came from Aquae Sextiae .
