Lucy Ann Polk
Lucy Ann Polk (born May 16, 1927 - October 10, 2011 ) was an American jazz and big band vocalist.
Live and act
Polk began her career with Tommy Dorsey (Baby, Baby All the Time) around 1947 ; She then became known primarily through her collaboration with the band leader Les Brown , in whose orchestra she sang in the early 1950s, when well-known jazz musicians such as saxophonist Dave Pell and trumpeter Don Fagerquist also played. In 1950, the single Crazy He Calls Me was released by RCA Victor . With Les Brown's orchestra she also appeared in a music film (I've Got the World on a String, 1951).
In 1954 she left Brown's orchestra because she no longer wanted to go on strenuous tours. She was also a singer in the bands of Kay Kyser and Dave Pell. In 1951, 1952, 1953 and 1954 she won the Downbeat Poll in the category Best Girl-Singer with Band . Polk submitted a total of three solo albums, including Lucky Lucy Ann (1957), which contained arrangements by Marty Paich and was the only one to be re-released on CD.
