Ludeko , also known under the name Lutho von Baldersheim († probably August 31, 1321 in Marienwerder ), was bishop of Pomesania .

Life

The priest of the Teutonic Order had been canon in Pomesania since 1291. As a compromise candidate, the cathedral chapter elected him bishop in 1309, but the archbishop of Riga refused to confirm and consecrate him because of his religious affiliation. Pope Clement V handed the investigation of his case over to the cardinal priest of S. Eusebio and, from June 1310, to the archbishop of Hamburg. The Teutonic Order soon appealed to the Pope, as the diocese threatened by the pagan Prussians should not remain vacant for long. But the process continued anyway. Finally, Ludeko went personally to the papal court in Avignon , where he obtained a transfer of his matter to Cardinal Jacob Colonna . Finally, in 1319, Ludeko renounced the diocese and all rights to which he was entitled by the election before the cardinal deacon Bertrand de Montefaventio , so that Pope John XXII. the diocese was awarded on December 3, 1319 on its own authority. After the Archbishop of Riga had been informed of this step, Ludeko received the episcopal ordination from Cardinal Nikolaus Alberti and on December 15, 1319 promised the payment of the servitia in the amount of 1,100 florins , as well as a payment of 5,000 florins for the now 10- year vacancy in which he had only presided over the diocese as an elect. In fact, the payments only began under his successor.

While still in Avignon, he sued his cathedral chapter because it had pledged and sold various goods of the bishop over the past 10 years. After Pope John XXII. In 1316 the Provost of Kulm had trusted the matter to be investigated, the dispute was probably settled in 1319.

After Ludeko returned to his diocese in the first half of 1320, he died in Marienwerder in 1321, in whose parish church he probably found his grave.
