Christian of Pomesania

Christian († December 14, 1308 or 1309 in Marienwerder ) was a priest in the Teutonic Order and Bishop of Pomesania .

Since 1282 chaplain of the Landmeister von Prussia Mangold von Sternberg (1280–1283) he later became chaplain and notary of Marshal Konrad von Thierberg the Elder . J. Participated in the solemn confirmation of the cathedral chapter in Marienwerder in September 1285, a little later he became canon and from 1287 cathedral provost . At the end of 1286 he was on behalf of the chapter with the Archbishop of Riga, Johann von Vechta , to obtain confirmation of the newly established chapter (1284/85) and the elected bishop Heinrich. In 1288 with other canons in Braunsberg as mediator in the dispute between the Warmian bishop Heinrich Fleming and his chapter about the northern diocesan border, he was a multiple witness and co-signer of Bishop Heinrich's documents since 1289, including at the end of 1289 as a witness to the settlement of the Kulm bishop Werner the bishop of Plock Thomas Tomka (1263 – around 1270), regarding the jurisdiction in the Kulmer Land . In 1293 he negotiated on behalf of the Landmeister of Prussia Meinhard von Querfurt (1288–1299) with the Bishop of Leslau? (Wloctawek) Wieslaw (1284–1300) on the goods in the Kulmer Land. In 1296 he took part in the General Chapter of the Teutonic Order in Elbing with the other bishops of Prussia, which was also the case in 1302. On behalf of the chapter to negotiate the exchange of goods with the landmaster of Prussia Helwig von Goldbach (1300-1302), he was elected by the cathedral chapter as his successor shortly after the death of the Pomesan bishop Heinrich in late April or early May 1303 . Due to the vacancy of the Riga ore chair only confirmed by Archbishop Friedrich von Pernstein after March 21, 1304 , it was ordained a bishop before September 14, 1305.

Christian took part in the general chapter of the order in Elbing in October 1303 . During the last years of his reign he had to defend himself against the Archbishop of Riga, Friedrich, who accused the Order of the Holy See for incorporating the cathedral chapter of Marienwerder and accused him of evading metropolitan violence. He found his grave in the parish church in Marienwerder.
