The semi-detached house Ludwig-Pfau-Straße 19 and Südstraße 142 in Heilbronn is a listed building that was built in 1910 by the building contractor Rudolf Seitz. Seitz also built the semi-detached houses at Südstrasse 144 and 146 and Ludwig-Pfau-Strasse 21 and 23 .

Location and surroundings

The building was erected on the corner of Südstrasse and Ludwig-Pfau-Strasse. Südstraße is part of a "city ring" in Reinhard Baumeister's town plan from 1873 . It leads from Silcherplatz to the west through the historic workers' quarter at Heilbronn Südbahnhof to the Rosenberg Bridge . Today the federal highway 293 runs on Südstraße .

The Ludwig-Pfau-Straße, named after Heilbronn's honorary citizen and poet Ludwig Pfau , runs from north to south. It belongs to an old industrial and workers' residential area.

In the years 1977–1981, the urban planning and urban development took over the restoration of the historic district from the beginning of the 20th century as part of the “careful renewal of individual city quarters”. The city quarter has been part of the “Socially Integrative City” funding project since 2003, and funding has been made available for the renovation by the city, federal and state governments.

history

In 1950, half of the house no. 19 belonged to the heirs of Lina Dann. A grocery store of the consumer cooperative was located on the ground floor. The house half no. 142 belonged to Friedericke Burckhardt from Kleingartach. Karl Hoppenworth was the hairdresser on the first floor. In 1961 No. 142 belonged to Fritz Steeger from Schnaitheim-Brenz. The use of the ground floors had not yet changed.

description

According to the monument topography, the semi-detached house is located “in a corner location that dominates urban development”. In this and in the two neighboring houses, which are designed in a stylistic unity, there are numerous “ stone carvings in the parapets of the window frames ”.

Art historical significance

The building is an example of the fact that a house that was built for a “middle social class” and contained correspondingly small apartments with little comfort, can still show an “artisanal architecture” and individual character.
