Ludwig Düwahl
Ludwig Düwahl (born January 8, 1879 in Plau am See , † April 27, 1940 in Hamburg-Eppendorf ) was a German illustrator .
life and work
Ludwig Düwahl was born as the son of the goldsmith Friedrich Düwahl. After his goldsmith apprenticeship in Rostock and Meyenburg, he took over his father's workshop in Plau am See .
Düwahl's " Plattdütsch Billerbauk ", published in 1908 by HINSTORFF-Verlag , was first reissued in 1981 on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the publishing house and saw several new editions.
In 1926 he also drew Wilhelm Wandschneider's certificate of honorary citizenship, which was exhibited in the Prof. Wandschneider sculpture museum .
Ludwig Düwahl wrote several plays, poems and stories (“Auf Umwege”, “Die Stövesands”, “Der Peter”) as well as two novels for the Plauer “Quartettverein”. "Captain Warasiner" - a figure historically guaranteed for Plau am See during the Thirty Years' War - was dramatized as a play "Krakeel üm Warasiner" and became a meckl. Home meeting in 1933 in Plau am See. (Urtext in the Museum Schwerin-Mueß )
In addition, as an interested expert on the prehistory and early history of Mecklenburg, Düwahl wrote articles for the “Mecklenburgische Monatshefte”, “Die Heimat” and other magazines and newspapers.
In his profession as a goldsmith, Ludwig made silver and bronze jewelry, as well as filigree inlay work. Part of this work is probably still in the private ownership of the Plauer families.
Ludwig Düwahl died in the Hamburg-Eppendorf hospital and was buried in the cemetery of his hometown Plau am See. The grave has not been preserved.
Düwahl's daughter Eva - married HEISE (1909–1973) - also had artistic talent and took modeling lessons with wall tailors. A bust of Ludwig Düwahl is signed by both of them and has been in the Museum am Burghof Plau am See since autumn 2005 together with some original drawings from the family estate. Since spring 2019 the museum has been showing an exhibition of Düwahl's work.
