from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ludwig Dehne (also known as Louis Dehne ; † May 8, 1799 ) was a German confectioner and founder of the Viennese kk Hofzuckerbäckerei.

Ludwig Dehne came to Vienna in 1786 as a confectioner journeyman from Württemberg and opened his “kk Hofzuckerbäckerei” opposite the Hofburgtheater on Michaelerplatz . Soon afterwards he became a purveyor to the court and supplied frozen foods, sweets and fruit sorbets for the balls and parties. The carnival donuts were just as famous as the almond milk.

Dehne died of tuberculosis in 1799 . His widow Antonia, b. Rieß, then married the confectioner Gottlieb Wohlfahrt. After his mother's death in 1832, son August Dehne took over the confectionery business. In 1857 he sold it to his oldest journeyman, Christoph Demel .
