Ludwig Hall
Samuel Baruch Ludwig Halle (* 1824 in Frankfurt am Main , † 1889 in Paris ) was a German painter who also worked in London and Paris.
life and work
Ludwig Halle studied painting at the Frankfurt Städelschule , then with Gustave Wappers at the Art Academy in Antwerp . His work at the time, The Flood , brought him great success in the local art scene.
After completing his studies, he moved to London and became known there as a portrait painter . He participated in the London art salons: he exhibited 32 works in the British Institution , 22 works in the Royal Academy of Arts and 15 works in the Royal Society of British Artists .
Then he came to Paris, where he showed his works in the Salon de Paris until 1882 . He was honored with the French citizenship .
The painter remained true to the art of late romanticism of the mid-19th century in his painter's workshop . Even in his later works, no influences from the painting of the Pre-Raphaelites or Impressionists are noticeable.
