Ludwig Hartmann (painter)
Ludwig Hartmann (born October 15, 1835 in Munich ; † October 20, 1902 there ) was a German horse painter.
Hartmann began his apprenticeship as a lithographer , studying from October 22, 1851 at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich under Joseph Schlotthauer .
He continued his painting apprenticeship from 1853/54 with Johann Wagner-Deines , who taught him the style of Dutch painting of the 17th century.
Hartmann was friends with Eduard Schleich the Elder , who influenced his landscape painting. Almost all of Hartmann's works depict horses in different circumstances. Hartmann was appointed professor at the Munich Academy in 1891.
Guido Hartmann (1876–1946) was his nephew and the author of his biography.
