Ludwig Keizer
Ludwig Keizer (born October 14, 1816 in Zug ; † January 8, 1890 in Zurich ) was a Swiss sculptor .
Life
Keizer was Catholic and came from Zug. He was the son of Maria Anna Barbara Paula geb. Bosshard and Jakob Basil Keizer. He did an apprenticeship with the plasterer Georg Rust in Solothurn. From 1836 he was in Munich , from 1837 he was an assistant to the sculptor Ludwig Michael Schwanthaler , who shaped him. As an employee of Schwanthaler, he was increasingly working independently on important works. He also attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich . In 1853 he won the competition for the Winkelried Monument (Stans). He returned to Zug and from 1855 worked as a teacher for ornamental drawing and modeling at the Zurich Polytechnic ; from 1857 he was a professor in the model class. In addition, Keizer created architectural sculptures, reliefs and grave monuments. His main works are the sculpture of St. Agathe in Zug (1850), the Oekolampaddenkmal in Basel (1862) and the monument by Gaudenz von Salis-Seewis in Chur (1866).
