Ludwig Martin Rampfl (born May 14, 1913 ; † November 13, 1999 ) was a German painter and sculptor . His work mainly consists of abstract painting, portraits, light painting and objects. He later called himself Ludwig Martin , with which he also signed from 1958.

Life

He completed his art studies at the State Painting School with Hugo Troendle and the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich . After a six-year hiatus during the war years, his first exhibitions aroused public interest and recognition. As a result, he had exhibitions at home and abroad.

He found his way from representational painting - he was a portrait painter - to abstraction . Light painting arose out of the longing for bright colors . Martin developed areas of tension between color and line, which can also be seen in his metal pictures, which lead to the kinetic objects .

In 1950 he was the founder of the artist group Pavillon. In 1961 he was awarded the Franz Roh Prize, a recognition prize from the Prinzregent Luitpold Foundation .

Rampfl lived and worked in Munich and Puchheim .
