from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ludwig Philipp von Pfalz-Guttenberg (born November 29, 1577 ; † October 24, 1601 in Heidelberg ) was Count Palatine of Veldenz zu Guttenberg.

Life

Ludwig Philipp was the third son of Count Palatine Georg Johann I von Veldenz (1543–1592) from his marriage to Anna Maria (1545–1610), daughter of King Gustav I Wasa of Sweden.

Ludwig Philipp followed his father in 1592 after a division of the estate together with his younger brother Georg Johann II in the Guttenberg estate . His older brothers Georg Gustav and Johann August received Veldenz and Lützelstein, respectively . Until 1595 Ludwig Philipp was under the tutelage of his mother and his eldest brother Georg Gustav.

Ludwig Philipp died unmarried and childless at the age of 23 from a serious eye injury that he had received at a tournament in Heidelberg. He was probably also buried in Heidelberg's Heiliggeistkirche .
