Ludwig Soumagne
Ludwig Soumagne (born June 11, 1927 in Norf near Neuss ; † October 22, 2003 ibid) was a Lower Rhine dialect poet .
Life
He attended secondary school in Neuss, completed an apprenticeship as a master baker and confectioner and ran a bakery in Neuss-Norf.
His best-known work is the litany , a poem that asks the Lord God to protect the "Dolle" (madmen) who do all kinds of arduous work for "us". It has been translated into more than 300 languages and dialects.
Soumagne wrote poetry and prose since 1946. Since 1956 he was a member of the specialist group 'Rhenish dialect writers' in the Rheinisches Heimatbund. Numerous publications in the magazines "Der Niederrhein" and "Die Heimat". In 1966 he brought out his first volume of poetry. Since then he has become one of the most important Lower Rhine dialect poets. He was often invited to the Neuss University of Education as a guest lecturer.
He was also a radio play writer for the WDR , a member of the PEN and a founding member of the International Dialect Institute in Vienna for 20 years .
In 1989 the International Dialect Archive of the Rhein-Kreis Neuss in Dormagen-Zons was named after him while he was still alive.
