Ludwig Vörg

Ludwig "Wiggerl" Vörg (born October 19, 1911 in Munich , † June 22, 1941 near Siolo , Soviet Union ) was a German alpinist .

Life

Together with Ludwig Schmaderer and Adolf Göttner , he was the first to climb the 2000 meter high west face of the Uschba in the Caucasus in the summer of 1935 and took part in the first ascent of the Eiger north face from July 21 to 24, 1938 together with Anderl Heckmair , Heinrich Harrer and Fritz Kasparek part. The year before he had tried his hand at the wall together with Matthias Rebitsch . Both came to just below the summit before they succeeded in their first successful retreat from the wall after a sudden fall in the weather and 100 hours under extremely poor conditions.

As a corporal of the Wehrmacht Vörg kneeled on 22 June 1941, the first day of attack on the Soviet Union in Siolo . His name can be found in the memorial book of the German military cemetery in Przemyśl .
