Ludwig Wilhelm Fischer (born May 29, 1817 in Rain (Lech) ; † January 10, 1890 in Marktoberdorf ) was a German local researcher and district judge.

Life

Ludwig Wilhelm Fischer was born in Rain in 1817 as the illegitimate son of the brewer's daughter Anna Baumann. His father was Friedrich Fischer, clerk at the Rentamt Schönenfeld and from 1829 town clerk of Rain . In 1823 Friedrich Fischer and Anna Baumann married and thus legitimized their son.

From 1844 Fischer first worked as a legal intern at the Rain District Court . From 1845 to 1848 he was patrimonial judge in (Unter-) Baar and then returned to the Rain Regional Court as an assessor until 1849. After more than a year as a regional court functionary in Rosenheim , he switched to the Weiler regional court in Allgäu on February 15, 1851 as an “actuary extra statum” and in 1853 received the second assessor position there. In 1856 he was transferred to the first assessor position at the Oberdorf Regional Court (today's Marktoberdorf ). When the regional courts in the Kingdom of Bavaria were divided into judicial and administrative authorities in 1862, Fischer took the lead and worked as a regional judge in Oberdorf until his retirement in 1879.

Ludwig Wilhelm Fischer died on January 10, 1890 in Marktoberdorf and was buried there in the old cemetery south of the Elector's Chapel.

From around 1842 Fischer worked as a local researcher alongside his official job. For each location of the Rain District Court, he created a booklet in which he collected the information on the respective locations. This created an extensive collection of material on the history of the city of Rain and its surroundings. The booklets are divided into “Bayer. Lechrain ”,“ Swabian Lechrain ”and“ Left bank of the Danube ”. Its content includes, among other things, sagas and customs, occupation of local authorities, buildings, foundations and businesses. Special personalities from the city of Rain are presented in other issues. These booklets (19 booklets in folio format 8) have been in the possession of the city of Rain since 1900. Part of the estate is the “Historisches Topographische Geschichte der Stadt Rain” published in Munich in 1858 and reprinted in Rain (Deibl) in 1936.

The second large legacy of Fischer's homeland research is owned by the Bavarian State Library as the so-called "Fischeriana" (54 books) . Issues 1 to 50 contain his collections of information on the Oberdorf Regional Court, and 51 to 54 information on the history of the town of Rain from its beginnings to 1866. The Oberdorf Regional Court also contains information on the history of the place and important personalities in the area and lists of antiquities, field names, etc. for all places of the district court. He also made countless sketches and drawings, such as of the Inner Market in Marktoberdorf. Individual issues deal with the Peasants' War, the Swedish War, handicrafts and agriculture, the electoral court at Oberdorf Palace, customs and traditions or “social conditions”. Parts of his collection "Sagas and Legends from the Allgäu" were published in the Allgäuer Zeitung. The Fischeriana booklets were digitized by the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek and have been available online in the digital collections of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek since 2017.

Volumes 51 to 54 (divided into 20 issues), a total of around 2000 pages, were completely transcribed from the Sütterlin script from 1996 to 1998 by Antonie Brandmair, Rain, and transferred digitally to the Rain City Archives.

In 1949 this memorial plaque was placed on the east side of the parish church of St. Martin zu Marktoberdorf:
