Ludwik Gorzkowski

Ludwik Gorzkowski (born November 21, 1811 in Cracow , † around 1857 ) was a Polish revolutionary and during the Cracow uprising of 1846 a member of the provisional Polish national government.

Life

He studied mathematics and physics at the University of Krakow and received his doctorate in 1835. phil. He was actively involved in the conspiratorial, revolutionary "Union of the Polish People". He agitated mainly among academics but also among craftsmen in Galicia , Silesia and the Grand Duchy of Posen . In addition, he had contact with the Polish political exile in Paris.

During the Cracow uprising of 1846 he belonged to the newly formed Polish national government alongside Jan Tyssowski and Aleksander Grzegorzewski . On February 22, 1846, the latter issued the manifesto, also signed by Gorzkowski, that called all Poles to arms and promised the abolition of interest, compulsory labor and announced that the freedom fighters would be paid compensation from national goods. In connection with the internal conflicts among the insurgents, he lost his leadership position.
