Lugari District was a district in the Kenyan province of Western . The capital of the district was Lugari . Until 1998 the area belonged to the Kakamega District . As part of the 2010 constitution , the Kenyan districts were dissolved. The area is now part of Kakamega County .

economy
In the Lugari District, 90% of the population worked in agriculture. Mainly corn , beans , millet , tobacco , coffee beans and cotton were planted. In 2000, 57% of the Lugari District population was below the poverty line.
Healthcare
The district had 51 health care facilities that primarily treated malaria , skin conditions, diarrhea, and respiratory infections. Infant mortality was 1.3% and 1.84% of the children died before their 5th birthday. 10–19% of the total population in the Lugari District were HIV- positive or had AIDS . Many children under five were malnourished and the maternal mortality rate was high.
