Luigi Ferraris (born November 18, 1887 in Florence , † August 23, 1915 on Monte Maggio ) was an Italian football player .
Career
The sports enthusiast Ferraris came to Genoa as a teenager. There he joined the CFC Genoa , one of the most important football clubs in Italy at the time. With the club he won the youth championship in 1904, in which Juventus Turin was clearly defeated with a 4-0 win in the final . Until 1911 he then played in the club's competition team , which he temporarily led as team captain. He then went to Milan for work , where he found a job with Pirelli , and was honored with a farewell game.
When Italy entered the First World War in May 1915, Ferraris was drafted as a lieutenant in the 1st Artillery Regiment. In August of that year he was hit by shrapnel at the Battle of Monte Maggio and mortally wounded.
On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of CFC Genoa in 1933, the club's home stadium was renamed Stadio Luigi Ferraris , during the ceremony it was posthumously awarded the Medal of Bravery and buried under the north stand.
