Luigi Lehnus

Luigi Angelo Lehnus (* 1946 ) is an Italian Graecist .

Life

Luigi Lehnus received his PhD from the University of Milan in 1971 . After various positions as a research assistant and assistant, he was professor associato for Greek and Latin philology there from 1983 to 1986. From 1986 to 1989 he was full professor of Greek and Latin grammar at the Università di Genova and from 1989 until his retirement in 2015 he was full professor at the University of Milan.

His research areas are Greek poetry, Hellenistic poetry, the learned poetry of the Latin language, the reconstruction of fragmentary Greek authors of the archaic and Hellenistic as well as the history of classical philology , especially in England ( Arthur S. Hunt , Hugh Lloyd-Jones ) and Germany ( Paul Maas , Ulrich von Wilamowitz-Moellendorff ). He has translated and commented on the Olympic Odes by Pindar and De facie in orbe Lunae by Plutarch . In particular, he dealt with Callimachus , with the indirect tradition as well as with the papyri.

In 2010 he was awarded the Premio Antonio Feltrinelli for Philology and Linguistics from the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei .
