Luigi Rizzi (born June 3, 1952 in Genoa ) is an Italian linguist and professor at the University of Siena (Italy). He studied at the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa and at the University of Paris VIII . He is mainly active in the area of ​​comparative syntax and is considered one of the founders of cartographic syntax . Together with Guglielmo Cinque , he is editor of the influential journal Rivista di grammatica generativa in the field of generative grammar .

In 2017, Rizzi was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
