Luigi Tarisio
Luigi Tarisio (* around 1790 in Fontaneto d'Agogna (near Milan), † October 1854 in Milan ) was an Italian connoisseur and dealer of historical string instruments . In the literature he was often described as the "violin hunter".
From 1820 to 1846 Tarisio brought a large number of genuine Amati , Stradivari and Guarneri violins from Italy to London and Paris. With extraordinary expertise he collected the remaining individual parts of historical instruments with the help of which other defective instruments could be repaired.
The auction house for valuable instruments, founded in New York and London in 1999, is named Tarisio after Luigi Tarisio .
