Luis Hierro

Luis Hierro , full name Luis Hierro Rivera ; (* in Treinta y Tres Department ; † after 1945) was a Uruguayan politician and journalist .

Life

Hierro, a member of the Partido Colorado, was initially political secretary to General Basilisio Saravia , a brother of Blanco - Caudillo Aparicio Saravia . He took part in the 1904 revolution and held the function of Jefe Político , comparable to today's Intendente , of the Treinta y Tres department . Later he was Minister of the Uruguayan Electoral Tribunal and Director of the daily El Ideal . His political companion and personal friend José Batlle y Ordóñez was also a member of the Cámara de Representantes from February 15, 1920 to February 14, 1923 . In 1945 he also sat for a short time (June 5 to June 11) as deputy senator in the Cámara de Senadores .

His son Luis Hierro Gambardella was also active in politics, as was his grandson Luis Hierro López , who was Vice-President of Uruguay between 2000 and 2005.
