Luis Oliva

Luis Oliva (born June 21, 1908 in La Paz , Córdoba Province , Argentina , † June 30, 2009 in Córdoba , Argentina) was an Argentine athlete who was twice the South American champion.

Luis Oliva won the 1931 South American Championships in the 3000 meter run in 8: 46.8 minutes. In this discipline there was only one team classification, which he won with the Argentine team. At the Olympic Games in 1932 , he gave up in the 3000 meter obstacle run. The following year, Oliva won the South American Championships in 1933 again over 3000 meters and won his second title with the team. In the 5000 meter run , he finished second behind his compatriot Roger Caballos . Oliva prepared for the marathon at the 1936 Olympic Games with the 1932 Olympic champion Juan Carlos Zabalain front. Both runners then gave up on the way to the Berlin marathon. Oliva tried again to qualify for the 1940 Olympic Games. After these games were canceled because of the Second World War, Oliva ended his sporting career, he then worked as a sports teacher. The 1.75 meter tall Oliva had a competition weight of 69 kilograms. He died shortly after his 101st birthday.
