Luisa Cáceres de Arismendi
Luisa Caceres Díaz de Arismendi (born September 25, 1799 in Caracas , † June 2, 1866 ibid) was Venezuelan national heroine during the war of independence against Spain.
In 1815/16 the national heroine was held captive by the Spaniards in the fortress of Santa Rosa in La Asunción . She was pregnant and still very young when she was locked up because she did not want to report her husband, the freedom hero General Arismendi. In captivity on Santa Rosa, the sixteen-year-old bride gave birth to a dead child. The Spaniards initially dragged them off to Europe; from there she fled to the United States to reunite with her husband in Caracas. She died of multiple mothers at the age of 66.
