Luisa Muraro (born June 14, 1940 in Montecchio Maggiore , Vicenza Province ) is an Italian philosopher and feminist .

life and work

Luisa Muraro studied at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan, where she graduated in philosophy in 1965. In 1975, together with other feminists, she founded the women's collective of the Milanese women's bookstore Libreria delle donne di Milano , which jointly wrote books under this name that were also translated into German and publishes the magazine Via Dogana . From 1976 to 2005 she taught at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Verona , where she founded the Diotima community of women philosophers in 1984 with Chiara Zamboni , Wanda Tommasi and Adriana Cavarero (until 1990) , named after the literary figure in Plato's Dialog Symposium .

Luisa Muraro is considered the outstanding thinker of a philosophical-feminist approach, the Italian pensiero della differenza sessuale (English: thinking of the gender difference), which she developed with the Diotima group and the Milanese authors' collective. Based on the French philosopher Luce Irigaray , by whom Muraro translated two works into Italian, the Italian difference thinkers put forward the thesis “that the gender difference in Western discourse was not thought of as egalitarian, but rather moved within an identity logic, in femininity only counts as negation and complementarity of masculinity. ”(Heike Kalhert) In addition to the difference between the sexes, they also distinguish the difference between women and within each woman. Based on this, they worked out a policy of relations between women, which they call an affidamento (Italian: to entrust oneself). In the practice of affidamento , women give each other authority and power. This policy leads to a new symbolic order , which can only arise if the relationship with the mother, as the first relationship, is valued. The Italian difference thinkers advocate a policy of women as a cross-sectional policy and reject a policy for women, because a specific women's policy would confirm female subordination to the male-dominated general.
